The Challenges You Must Overcome to Turn Your Small Business Into a Big Business

You might have a small business today, but you don’t want that label for the life of your business. When entrepreneurs make endeavors, they are looking to create a business that will rule the world one day. However, every business has to face some struggles in the beginning that it must overcome to become a big business. The way you handle these challenges decides the fate of your small business. Today, you will read about these challenges and the solutions to them, so if you are a small business, you can set the foundation for its success.

Knowing the Target Market

One of the biggest issues with most small businesses is that they don’t know their exact target market. Sometimes, they don’t know how to narrow down to the target market. This is a huge issue because you could have a perfect product, but you might pitch it to the people who don’t need it. Keep in mind that people who don’t need your product won’t buy it even if you try to give it to them for free. On the other hand, people who need your product will be willing to buy it even if it is priced high. For your business to survive, it needs to start selling as quickly as possible, and that’s why it is important to find your target market before launching your product.

Solution

The first step of identifying your target market is to know your product well enough. You have to ask yourself some important questions about the product and write the answers down. For example, you have to ask yourself “what existing problem does my product solve?” You also have to know if there are any other solutions available in the market for the same problem. If yes then you have to see how your product is better than them or how you can make it better. Conduct surveys on the street and social media to know the personas of the best buyers of your product.

The Right Type of Marketing

Businesses, small and big, have huge parts of their budgets allocated only for marketing purposes. However, the modern technological advancements have proven that a big marketing budget does not translate to successful marketing. So, you might have done a great job in identifying your target market, but if you approach them in the wrong way or through the wrong channel, you will not be able to reap any benefits from even the most potential market for your product or service.

Solution

Identifying your target market should help you identify your marketing methods and channels too. For example, if your product is for people aged over 50, you would not want to make Instagram the prioritized marketing channel because only 18% of the users on Instagram are aged above 50. Similarly, any product that targets executives, marketing officers and professional people should be promoted on LinkedIn before any other platform. After knowing the buyer personas, you should also select the type of marketing that best suits your potential audience. If you are creating a hip-hop music video for marketing to retired individuals or an opera video for 18-year olds, you are doing it wrong. Use website analytical tools to know what appeals or does not appeal to your website, visitors. Base your digital marketing campaigns on data-this is the era of data-driven marketing.

The Funding Problem

If there were no funding problem, every person who thinks of a unique idea would have a business. In the real world, funding is always a problem, and it is exactly the point where the journey ends for many aspiring people in business. However, it is not always the lack of funds that kill many small businesses before they even start. In fact, the important part is how much dedication you show in arranging those funds. Sometimes, people have the options available, but they do not knock on all the doors.

Solution

First, you have to know all the options you have available for arranging the funds. If you are not okay with arranging funds through the bank or in the form of a loan, take a look around at your family and relatives. You will be surprised to know how many of the people in your circle will be ready not only to give you the investment you need but become a part of the endeavor. The crowdfunding options are also there. You don’t even have to go to the investors personally today as you can visit a platform like funded.com and arrange funds online.

The Right Leadership

You can’t make a business successful unless you have the right leader in place. It is not completely untrue that the attitude of the leader sets the attitude of the rest of the employees at a company. If you lack confidence in your leadership, you will end up hiring people who lack confidence in themselves. One of the biggest problems with most small business owners is that they can’t convince themselves to delegate responsibilities. They believe in their skill so much that their mind never accepts that someone else can handle the responsibilities too. They end up taking the responsibility of everything on their shoulders and mismanaging things at the end of the day.

Solution

The first thing that needs to be fixed here is how you think. If you find it hard to delegate responsibilities, get rid of this habit as soon as possible. You can’t handle everything as the business grows and so you have to create a team right from day one. Do not hire people just because they can do the job-hire people who share the same vision as you. Do not settle for good employees because finding the best ones is taking time. Do not try to take matters into your hands all the times. Listen to everyone that’s part of the team and the decision making process. Have a great relationship with your employees.

Setting the Price

One of the most difficult decisions for a small business owner is to set the price of its service or product. When you are a small business, you can’t afford to have a full-fledged marketing department. Of course, when you have a marketing department, they can set the price of your products, but when there is no marketing department, you are the one to take this decision. Price your solutions too low, and you might not make any profit at all. Price your solution too high, and customers might never buy your product.

Solution

It will be tremendously helpful in this scenario to take a look at your competitors and how they have priced their products. Secondly, you have to know a simple rule to set the prices of your products and services. You first set the price to cover your costs. Once you have started covering your costs, you set the price to cover the costs and make a profit. Once you have done that successfully, you start adding your “value” to the price. You should also know the buying power of your target market so you can keep the price within their comfort zone.

Setting Up A Network Cabling Service For A Small Business Entity

In a typical enterprise organization, the network is the central theme which becomes an essential component to run the small office network efficiently well.

The alignment of the network system for small office network works well and could possibly accommodate the digital transmissions in the days to come.

In this particular trend, when aligning a small office network, the cabling service plays a vital role in terms of connecting to the various network devices such as the switches and routers which in turn connects the devices for their specific IP addresses and other related devices.

The network devices have manifested as the integral components

Switches predominately connect the multiple devices:

• The switches have been instrumental in connecting the workstations, servers, and printers to mention a few.

• In the recent times, since organizations have provisionally permitted the BYOD devices; the switches have scaled up to even provide the network connectivity to certain smart mobile devices

• Since the entire world has changed into complete digitization, the switches have evolved and have been connecting the devices which generally transmit higher bandwidths and also accommodate the voice and data transmissions at faster levels.

Routers the gadgets to vehemently connect the IP address series:

• Routers are those devices which connects the IP address series in an office network,

• The router have been the devices which ardently connects the networked computers or the device which signifies the IP address to the internet, while connecting to the internet or the internet service provider (ISP) the routers are responsible to share the resources as one single internet connection.

• In simpler terms, the routers have been connecting the small office to the internet world and also become a barrier for the ongoing security threats.

The network cabling benefits:

• The modern day the data center management to efficiently function well has to be well planned which brings about the less down time? The cabling subsystems play a major role in the digital connectivity for the data center and the connected servers.

• A failed cable infrastructure often brings about the more breaks in the digital connectivity and translates into millions of dollars of lost revenue and decreased productivity.

• The structured cabling has been able to bring about the voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and have been engaging the organizations with integrated messaging and wireless applications.

• If convenience is the primary reason to implement a wireless network, the wireless network has been the reason to bring about both the speed and the reliability.

• The wireless routers have in the recent past become very powerful entities that they are able to connect the BYOD devices for a greater efficiency in carrying out the varied business accomplishment.

The attributes of both the wired and wireless networks

In the recent times, most of the business enterprises have been bringing about the hybrid systems of network alignment. They opt for both the wired and wireless networks, as they use Ethernet devices to attach the printers which are there on the local area network (LAN) and the access to certain crucial information onto the storage mediums through wireless ways.

In both the formats, the wired and wireless networks, the transmission bandwidths are well maintained.

VRS Technologies have been spearheading itself in the network cabling services for a decade now and have been implementing the best practices of network alignment in most of the corporate entities across. We have achieved the success rate in providing the cabling infrastructure which accommodates higher bandwidth.

5 Tips For Remote Tech Support for a Small Business

You may be the CEO of a new business with a lot of requests from clients or you may be an IT professional at a small firm where new infrastructure is required. No matter what position you are on right now, you need advanced technology solutions. However, you may want to keep in mind that installing and maintaining new systems can pose a challenge. So, you have to be ready to deal with this challenge. One way is to hire a dedicated employee or outsource the tasks to a good team of professionals. Given below are a few tips that can be used to organize remote tech support.

Identifying the results

First of all, what you need to do is identify your desired results. It’s important to keep in mind that each small business has its own requirements as far as tech support is concerned. So, it’s a good idea to decide on what you want to achieve. Moreover, you may want to find out about the technical issues that you may encounter. For instance, your requirements may be different if your area gets regular power outages.

Your next step is to make a list of your main IT tasks and the desired results that you want to achieve. This will help you get a better idea of your needs and choose the right type of technical support.

Choosing the provider

It’s not a good idea to take this decision without thinking a lot. You should take your time to do the research and look for the right company. The provider should have good reputation and a support plan that won’t break the bank.

Considering in-house tech support

A dedicated IT staff can help a lot provided you take into account all the important factors, such as the company size, tech challenges, and your internal and external needs related to your customers.

Considering hybrid solutions is also a great idea where you can bring a professional to handle critical issues. For other projects, you can use a remote IT support team. For instance, you can use this team to take care of emergency issues.

Investing in good software

Your business may have more than one location. Your commitments may be time-sensitive and your deliverables may be complex. Your customers or clients may be diverse with needs that keep on changing.

To meet these needs, you need to buy a reliable remote app in order to offer support to each of your client. The same app can be used by your staff to get access to important data as needed.

Consulting IT pros

If your business experiences small issues on a route basis, you can get advice from the pros whose job is to fix those issues on a daily basis. For instance, you can head to tech support forums where many pros offer advice for free of charge to those who need it. You may be amazed to know that even complicated issues can be solved with simple tricks

5 Reasons Why SMB’s Should Use SEO

As the owner of a small or medium-sized business, you may be under the impression that “SEO” (Search Engine Optimisation) is just a fancy marketing term for big businesses and corporations. And you’re not alone – in a recent survey, it was found that while 56% of small businesses have their own websites, only 28% think about SEO.

The importance of SEO in this day and age could not be more prevalent. Neglecting to apply SEO strategies to your website may be as crippling for your business as locking your front doors. So what does SEO do? In a world where most consumers use search engines to find nearby companies, SEO is the difference between being visible or invisible. Here are 5 reasons why SMB’s should use SEO today.

1) Traffic Boost

The traffic going to your website is driven mainly by search engines. Simply putting up a website is not enough to get seen; people have to know you exist in the first place. Every time they use Google or another search engine to find their new job, designer handbag, car repair (or anything else), Google uses special algorithms to determine which websites will show up on the front page.

By using certain SEO strategies, you can be one of the first sites to pop up every time someone needs something related to your business. Without SEO, you will be buried beneath a mountain of competitors.

2) It’s Cost Effective

Most marketing and advertising costs big money, but the only cost of SEO is how much time you spend learning SEO strategies and writing content, or paying an SEO specialist to improve your Google rankings. With a proper SEO campaign maintained over several months, you can expect an ROI several times greater than any Facebook or AdWords advertising, up to 800% or more.

3) Small Businesses Can Beat Big Businesses with Specific Keywords and Other Localized Advantages

Once you get into SEO, you will start to learn that it’s all about the keywords, which are simply the words and phrases that people enter into search engines. The overall goal of SEO is to write content in which these keywords are used and focused on, making your site stronger and higher ranked when people Google that certain keyword.

So you might think that your chances at success are hopeless; after all, how are you supposed to out-SEO corporations and large businesses that have been doing this for years? Well, small businesses actually have a greater advantage due to long tail keywords. Long tail keywords are long and specific keywords or phrases. As a small business, you also have a smaller and more specific target audience (for example, everyone looking for your product or service in your town or city, as opposed to a global audience). You can hone in on long tail keywords that include your specific location or audience, that big businesses won’t bother tackling. Sure, Toys R Us may get all the “new toys” searches, but your small toy store can capture all the “new toys for young boys in London” searches.

And this isn’t the only thing that helps out small businesses, search engines generally take into account the user’s location with Local Search, meaning you have a better chance to be seen by people in your area. This will only improve with recent updates in which business owners can further personalize their listings.

In addition to this there is also what’s known as “off-page SEO”: this is less about the SEO work you do on your website, and more about improving your reputation in the real world and through social media. It turns out that people are more than willing to talk up a small local business that provide a good service, and the more people are talking about you on the web, the more likely your rankings will rise.

4) Competitors Will Always Have an Advantage If You Don’t Jump Onboard

The internet boom has come and gone, and ignoring what it can offer is just irresponsible for your business. SEO is fact of life these days and most, if not all, of your competitors are certain to be doing this, so you need to get onboard.

You may argue that you already have a stable group of loyal customers who will keep your business afloat, customers with whom you have built up trust before the SEO and social media years. Sure, that may be the case now, but how long until those customers stop needing or wanting the service or product you provide? New customers will not flock to your store like the old ones. Why? Because new customers will be swept away by your competition long before they even hear your name.

5) SEO Will Always Be Around

SEO isn’t something that we’ll ride out. The way search engines work, and the fact Google has an increasingly monopolized hold over search engines and various social media platforms, SEO will always be relevant. The best option is to start working on your SEO as soon as possible if you don’t want your business to drown under the current.

So what are you waiting for? Don’t let the marketing acronyms and jargon scare you away; at the end of the day, SEO is as simple as every other part of running a business. The longer you wait, the further you fall behind. And if you still don’t feel comfortable handling all the technical aspects of SEO, that’s fine; that’s what SEO specialists are for.

Roofing Contractors For Rental Homes

Finding the right roofing company can become tedious and annoying. Comparing local roofing contractors is a chore! So which one do you choose? How can you make it easier? If your rental home is in need of a roofing job, which company will make it simple and show you the breakdown of expenses so that you can claim them on your tax return? So many questions and concerns! There are three main topics to consider when looking for a roofing contractor for your rental home: Which roofing company will have an itemized invoice for easy expense recording, a roofing company’s guarantee, and the speed of the roofing company.

First, let’s look at the expenses. You must ask the roofing contractor if they send you an invoice, but not just an invoice. You want the roofing company to break down the expenses so that your tax preparer can record the expenses easier on your schedule E rental property. Some expenses can be fully rendered the year it was paid for while others have to be put down as an asset and depreciated. The roofing improvement itself is an asset to your property and must be depreciated in a 7 year period. But you don’t have to put your total roofing upgrade under the asset. You can deduct smaller expenses the year you pay. You could save much more itemizing the expenses this way! So make sure your roofing contractor breaks down the fees: Labor, supplies, permits, etc. The labor and main roofing supplies have to be put down as an asset and depreciated, but the work permits, garbage hauling expense, misc. supplies, all can be deducted the year you pay for it!

Second, the roofing company’s guarantee is extremely important whether it is a rental home or your personal home! If the guarantee does not cover certain things you will want to know exactly what the guarantee covers! It is important to ask your roofing contractor the details on the guarantee because weather can damage the roof, animals can damage the roof, anything can happen!

Last but not least, the speed of the roofing company is extremely important to a rental property! If your tenants are busy people or do not like to be bothered a roofing job can become extremely stressful to your tenants! Make sure to find out how long the job will take and exactly when they come so you can give your tenants a 30 day warning, a 2 week follow up warning, a week follow up warning, and the next day warning so they are fully prepared. Let them know exactly how long the job will take. The yard will look messy and garbage will be flying everywhere. Make sure you have home owners insurance and warn your tenants to keep children out of the yard! There will be nails and other debris lying around! Last thing you need is a lawsuit!

In conclusion, make sure to follow these three topics to find the perfect local roofing company! Make sure to keep yourself as least stressed as possible during the search, have fun, and make sure to record everything! Roofing jobs on rental homes can be very stressful, but hopefully this helps!

4 Useful Tips To Manage Your Small Business Finances

A small business can fail for a variety of reasons, but money related issues are one of the main concerns. Even with a high-quality service or product, you will find it difficult to achieve success without a healthy cash flow to cover business expenses. Here are a few tips to help manage the finances:

Clear targets

A simple strategy is to set the clear financial goals for the future. This should relate to both the short-term and long-term. It can be difficult to know if a small business is reaching its targets and being successful if the financial goals aren’t determined at an early point of getting setup. In the process of setting the targets, it is useful to set a worst case and best case scenario. This will give a complete picture of how successful a business is and gives more time to take appropriate action if the desired income is not achieved.

Accountancy software

The ability to maintain the finances is made that much easier with the right accountancy software in place. This type of software has a wide range of features and can help with tracking your financial picture, running reports on key metrics, and staying in touch with day-to-day expenses. The more advanced software can help to prepare tax forms or similar financial records. Plus, the accountancy software can significantly speed up the ability to manage the accounts, which means more time is available to work on other areas of the business.

Issuing invoices

A small business is certain to benefit from a system that prepares and delivers invoices as soon as a service or product is delivered. Staying on top of issuing the invoices means payments are regularly received for the work done without any extended delays. It can help to use software to speed up the process and automatically issue the invoices. Also, it is essential to chase up on any late payments to make sure a regular cash flow is maintained.

Control spending

It helps to be ruthless with spending to avoid letting the finances get out of control. It is quite easy to spend more than intended on expensive equipment or taking on too many staff being you are really ready. The best course of action is to carefully manage the growth of the business and make sure it is reaching its targets before spending high sums on purchases or extra staff.

Recent Study Backs Up Big Advantages of PEOs

The Professional Employer Organization (PEO) industry continues its steamrolling success at a hefty growth rate of almost 30% per year- and that number increases each year! In 2017, PEO companies provide services to between 156,000 and 180,000 small and mid-size businesses, employing between 2.7 and 3.4 million people.

There are many reasons why employers turn to these companies for help with administrative and business matters. Employers want to focus their time and energy on running their business and not on the paperwork, liabilities and obligations of having employees.

Many small business owners do not have the mandatory training they need to perform human resource, payroll and accounting tasks that every business needs. They also might not have expertise in risk management or compliance to keep their business liabilities low. And since employee insurance programs continue to increase in difficulty and cost, some employers are not able to offer their employees access to these essential benefits.

PEOs take these burdens off the table and allow employers to refocus their attention to the parts of their company that need their proficiency. They have experts on staff to handle all of the HR, payroll, and workers’ compensation insurance hassles that take up so much valuable time. Plus, they give small-group markets access to many employee benefits and employment amenities they would not have otherwise.

A PEO’s economy of scale enables each of its clients to increase their bottom line by keeping their costs low. Plus, they provide time savings by handling regular occurring and time consuming tasks that become more or less “busy work” for them and their employees.

Between 1980 and 2000, the number of labor laws and regulations grew by almost two thirds, according to the federal Small Business Administration. This same study estimated owners of small or mid-sized business spent up to a quarter of their time on employment-related paperwork. Using a PEO company for these matters frees up the business owner so he/she can concentrate on sales and growth.

According to a recent study done by McBassi and Company for NAPEO (the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations), business owners who use PEOs have an edge over their competition when it comes to business growth. They found that businesses who use these services:

Had revenue growth that was twice that of those who do not (10 percent versus 5 percent);

Had expected revenue growth that was 40 percent greater than those who do not (14 percent versus 10 percent); and

Were 16 percent more likely to report an increase in profitability (58 percent versus 50 percent).

In addition, the same study (titled PEOs: Good for Businesses and Their Employees, September 2017) found that employers were happy in their outsourcing relationship. Findings include that:

98 percent would recommend a PEO to a small business colleague;

70 percent report that their revenues have increased since becoming a client; and

66 percent report that their pro tability has increased since becoming a client.

Employees who work for businesses using these companies are happy with the relationship, as well. This study shows that those employees report significantly higher scores on key measures related to employee satisfaction and confidence in company management, such as:

Levels of employee engagement (+5);

Intention to stay with their current employer until retirement (+8);

Belief that employer is taking the right steps to be competitive (+8);

Trust that employer is supporting employees in delivering excellent customer service (+7); and

Confidence in employer’s approach to growing the company (+5).

Almost any business can find value in a PEO relationship- clients range from accounting firms and construction to manufacturers and government agencies. The average client is a small business with an average of 19 employees, but some clients have fewer than three employees. Increasingly, larger businesses are signing up, too.

Small Business Success – The Top 5 Surprising Reasons Most Businesses Fail And How To Avoid Them

There is no agreement among experts on the percentages of businesses that fail. Recently, Forbes estimated that 80% of companies fail, while Fortune claims it is closer to 90%. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), about 50% fail within the first year. Of those that survive, the SBA goes on to tell us, only about 66% survive the second year.

Whatever the number indeed is, most small businesses do not survive the first couple of years. Why is the survival rate so low?

In starting many businesses myself and working with small businesses owners as clients, I’ve come across five surprising reasons why small business owners struggle and fail. In this article, I’ll point out these reasons, and by knowing them, you can avoid these pitfalls.

Reason #1 – Don’t know what product they are selling.

It is hard to believe that most business owners do not understand what product or service they are selling. They say “People come to me to buy flowers,” “I’m offering insurance,” or “I sell cupcakes.” But the truth is, they are not selling a product or a service, they are selling a feeling or emotion.

Buying habits are based on feeling and emotions and are only justified by the use of logic. Let that sink in. People buy based on feeling and emotions and then defend it with logic.

Let’s say you have a flower shop. People can buy flowers from many different sources these days. Supermarkets have flowers as do some convenience stores. Why should they buy from you?

What feelings or emotions can you promote that will set you up for success with your business?

Reason #2 – Don’t know who is their ideal customer

Many business owners will say that they don’t care who their customers are. Just as long as they have customers, they are happy. They just want to have customers.

The truth is it is essential for you to know who your ideal customers are, and there are many benefits for this. When you work with your perfect customer, you do your best work because you enjoy working with them. You will be more inspired and fulfilled by what you do. You will connect with your customer on a deeper level, and they will more likely recommend you to others.

So, who is your ideal customer?

Reason #3 – Don’t know what makes them unique.

I come across many business people who believe that they will be successful just because they open their doors, have a website, or hang a sign up that says they are open for business. They think that the product they have will sell itself. Sometimes this can happen. However, it is an infrequent occurrence.

In this increasingly confusing world, information and products are continually bombarding your customers from all sides, and you need to stand alone to stand out. To do this, you need to be unique from all the other businesses out there doing the same thing you are. By being unique, your customer will recognize you and come looking for you.

What is it that makes you unique in the market?

Reason #4 – Don’t know how to promote the business.

When a business does not know what product they are selling, what makes them unique, and who their ideal customer is, they have a difficult time promoting their business. If you are trying to please and attract everyone, your message is too broad to appeal to anyone, and you waste a lot of time and effort with your marketing.

If a business is clear on what and who it is, promotion is simpler and more straightforward. Advertising becomes more targeted, and because of this, its success rate is higher.

In light of this, how can you now promote your business?

Reason #5 – Don’t know their end goal.

So what game are you playing? Many of the businesses I come across answer this question by saying they want to be successful. But what does successful mean? The answer is different for everyone. A company that does not know what their end goal of being in business is, they do not have a direction in which to work towards, and because of this they flounder around and never achieves their goals.

Knowing what your end goal is to provide you with a direction in which to work. Is your end goal to eventually sell your business for a profit? Or maybe it is to provide a comfortable life for yourself and your family? But understand if it is the latter, what does comfortable mean to you? What salary do you want to earn? Or is it that you want to spend more time with your family? Knowing the answers to these questions gives you a direction and a goal.

So what is your end goal?
